Cinema Paradiso with Steranko 40

I was introduced to Cinema Paradiso whilst I was vinyl collecting. I am sure most people heard the theme song sometime before but maybe unaware of the story behind it. The album has been in my collection for some time and I occasionally bring it out and listen to it on my record player and now played through the Steranko 40, I can hear it in all it’s fully glory with its majestic violin bringing a nostalgic feel and full of love when we understand the background to the story.

Cinema Paradiso is a beautiful and nostalgic film that tells the story of Salvatore, a young boy who grows up in a small Sicilian village and falls in love with the magic of cinema. The film follows his journey from childhood to adulthood, exploring his deep bond with the local cinema, Cinema Paradiso, and its projectionist, Alfredo.

What makes Cinema Paradiso special:

A love letter to cinema: The film is a celebration of the power of movies to transport us to different worlds, evoke emotions, and inspire dreams. It captures the wonder and excitement of watching films in a communal setting.

  • A touching story of friendship: The film explores the profound friendship between Salvatore and Alfredo, a mentor-like figure who guides and supports Salvatore's passion for film making.
  • Nostalgia and bittersweet memories: The film evokes a sense of nostalgia for a bygone era, capturing the charm and simplicity of small-town life in post-war Italy. It also delves into themes of loss, love, and the passage of time.
  • Stunning visuals and evocative music: The film's cinematography is breathtaking, capturing the beauty of the Sicilian landscape and the magic of the cinema experience. The soundtrack is equally powerful, enhancing the emotional impact of the story.
